Congressional hearings regarding NBC and Comcast merger and the blocking of Hulu content on Boxee was brought to the table yesterday. Zucker stating that he is open to offering Hulu to Boxee, but only through a licensing agreement. Which is a contradiction of a comment made months earlier by Hulu management.

See the qued video right as Zucker is questioned directly by Congress. Here

Kevin Rose is at it again with his Square iPhone Payment System.  Pretty bad ass little device. Swipe for payment, sign it, email the receipt and it even gives a GPS location in the email. Very, very cool!  Oh, and he invested in the company too.  Really???  I would’ve never guessed. ;-)

Wonder how the payments to my account work. Direct to my personal bank account, paypal, or do you need a full merchant bank account?

Nice piece, Kevin. I’d buy it.

Frontline: The Warning – is an in depth look into the foundation that caused much of the current US financial melt down.  Basically a ponzi scheme using the unregulated Derivatives market, all controlled by Greenspan and the US Government and abused by all the leading financial institutions from the Fed down.  The current issues date back to the early 1990’s and the current meltdown is actually the second since then.

But one woman, Brooksley Born, tried to blow the whistle, but was stifled by Greenspan. “We didn’t truly know the dangers of the market, (more…)

Jon Stewart: “The Only People Who Have Recovered From The Meltdown, Are Those Who Caused It”

Since the current financial meltdown cannot be adequately addressed by congress, the president or the financial institutions; seems John Stewart may be on to something after all!

Corruption and the robbing of America’s middle-class could not have been pulled off any better than this.  We’ve been duped……….again people!  But at least John Stewart can help us laugh about it and make us stand up and say, “hey, wait a minute …”

Warning-a heavy dose of reality with a tad bit of adult language.

Inside CES 2010 – The Boxee Box

Here is a good interview from Avner Ronen, CEO of Boxee, from the eGuiders blog. Good look  into Boxee, Boxee Box and Avner’s insight into the customers needs with regard to content and how they want it served.

The paradigm is changing!  Good stuff.  Glad I am able to play a wee small part in helping Boxee Beta get rolling.

boxeebox Boxee Box crowned Last Gadget Standing at CES CNN News

The Boxee Brown, a cube-like device that shares Internet content with your TV, is scheduled to go on sale this spring.

With the Boxee Box being crowned ‘Last Gadget Standing’ at CES last night, the ball will certainly start rolling for Team Boxee in the coming months.

The award is decided by a live demonstration and voted on via crowd applause at the event each year. It seems that “the box” narrowly beat the Plastic Logic’s Que e-reader and the Intel Reader, both of which scan text and reads it aloud. (more…)

A few days ago I ran across a post by the boys at Homeserverland. They have a great How To Install Magic Jack on WHS!

magicjack1 300x180 How To Install Magic Jack on WHSI’ve had my Magic Jack now for about 5 months. It has worked very well for the most part. There was an known issue with some random beeping in the background, but they have sorted that out with a firmware update.I’ve got a Panasonic 3 phone base setup connected to it and all works fine.

I’ve always wondered about connecting the MJ to my WHS since it’s always on. The How To at HomeServerLand looks pretty easy.  The trickiest part is setting up the Service to run MJ when no one is logged in. I’ve done it before with other programs and it’s not too hard.

Anyway, if you want a super economical home phone for $19 a year, get one at your local Walmart, Wallgreens, Radio Shack, BestBuy etc. Then connect it to your home PC or WHS!  You’ll love it.

What interesting ways have you put Magic Jack to use?

Maximum PC published a fantastic article entitled, “Build a Kick-Ass Windows Home Server.”  This large, 8 page article covers the gauntlet of Windows Home Server building, practical use, and essential add-ins.

The article covers the actual parts list they chose as well as the installation. Something that is good for the newbie PC builder and a good refresher for the well versed. They also discuss WHS Console functionality and their Top 5 add-ins (Advanced Admin Console, Disk Management, Web Folders 4 WHS, Photo Sync, and My Movies).  Personally, I could not live without Advanced Admin Console and Disk Management add-ins. I luv those two add-ins and I set them up on every WHS I build for friends and customers. I’m definitely interested in the My Movies add-in. I’ll have to check that one out soon and report back.

Maximum PC even covers the modification of the WHS swap file for performance gains, the use of Sync Toy (which I’ve never used…yeah, I know), and third party software to transcode HD TV files.

I’ve read a lot of lame WHS articles, but this one was very informative. Even after all the WHS Beta testing I did in the early days, I learned a few new tricks.

Wind It UpAre you a do-it-all type? You know, the type of person that has his or her hands on all sorts of jobs or projects at home and work. Seemingly specializing in a jack-of-all-trades mentality. If you are one of these types of people, it seems you never have enough time in a day to get things done, right? But it feels so good to say you did this and did that.  Well, you know the saying: the most effective person is not necessarily the one who does the most, but the one who gets the most done.
